Most irrigation systems in orchards today are built upon low-volume irrigation, driplines or mini sprinklers.  The advantage of drip irrigation is that it is far more accurate and efficient.  Drip irrigation is especially critical during the initial years of a tree's growth while it is young. Each tree should be irrigated directly to the roots with zero water waist.  When the root zone grows, more drippers should be added to the tree, or new driplines should be added along the row with the smaller spacing in between the emitters.  Drip lines could be laid on the surface soil or in the subsurface.

Low volume mini sprinklers have their own advantage when they irrigate a larger root zone, offering a strong solution for more mature trees
